CEO Dario Amodei told reporters and published a formal statement asserting that his company “cannot in good conscience accede to terms that would permit its models to be used for mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons, even for “lawful purposes”.
The dispute stems from Pentagon contract language that would allow the military unrestricted operational use of Claude, without limitations on those two specific use cases.
